Fractions for Beginners: Understanding Parts of a Whole

Fractions are a fun way to show parts of a whole thing. Imagine you have a pizza, and it’s divided into 6 equal slices. If you take 2 slices, we write that as a fraction: 2/6. The top number tells how many parts you have (2 slices), and the bottom number tells how many parts make up the whole pizza (6 slices). Fractions make it easy to talk about and share pieces of things like pizzas, pies, or cakes!

Learning about fractions helps us understand how things can be divided into equal parts. Whether it’s splitting a chocolate bar or cutting a cake, fractions show us exactly what portion belongs to us. Ready to see how fractions work?
