Summer is a time for relaxation and fun, but that doesn't mean our brains have to take a break too. At EMC, we offer two exciting math courses during the summer: Fun Math and Competition Math. You can choose to enroll in one or both courses, and enjoy two lessons per week.
The Fun Math program is all about having a good time while learning math. Each week, we explore a different theme, such as space, fishing on the beach, exploring the underwater world, and fighting goblins. Our students solve puzzles, play logic games, and practice math concepts, without even realizing that they are learning math!
In the Competition Math course, we solve problems from various math competitions, exposing students to different styles of questioning and strategies for solving. This course helps to develop logic and out-of-the-box reasoning skills, and is perfect for students who want to challenge themselves and take their math skills to the next level.
We understand that spending our precious vacation time studying may not be everyone's cup of tea.
However, at EMC, we believe that keeping our brains active during the summer is important. It helps to prevent the loss of knowledge gained during the school year and keeps our “thinking muscles” in shape. Learning math doesn’t have to be a chore!
“Our courses are designed to reignite their curiosity and rekindle their love for learning and exploration”
Our summer programs are designed to be engaging and enjoyable, making it easier for kids to stay motivated and excited. Even if your child has lost interest in math, our courses are designed to reignite their curiosity and rekindle their love for learning and exploration.
We also understand that fitting supplemental summer programs into your schedule can be challenging. Hopefully we can help with that.
Below are a few answers to common questions that parents often ask us:
Question: Wouldn't it be better to hire a tutor instead of joining your summer lessons?
Answer: If the goal is to catch up with the school curriculum and fill in the gaps, then individual tutoring may be the best approach. However, if the goal is to awaken curiosity, deepen and reinforce knowledge, and promote social interaction, then group lessons are a better option. Group lessons provide a social element, connection with peers, and a much more enjoyable and motivating learning experience. At EMC, we keep our groups small, with a maximum of six kids per group, to ensure that every student receives enough attention.
Question: I don't know my schedule yet, how can I sign up for a full session of summer classes?
Answer: No worries! We run many parallel groups during the summer, and each lesson is designed to be standalone. If you miss a lesson, you can find a make-up option at another time or day or even switch to a different program for that week. For example, if you missed a Fun Math lesson, you can come and try a Competition Math class instead (unless, of course, your child is already enrolled in both programs :-)). We also offer prorated fees for missed classes, so you don't have to worry about losing out on your investment.
Question: We are leaving for Europe in the summer, there will be an inconvenient time difference …
Answer: Our schedule is designed to accommodate many different time zones, but we understand that sometimes it's difficult to find a suitable time. If this is the case, let us know, and we will try to open a group that works for you. And if you invite two more friends to join the group, consider it done!
Question: Why is the summer program online only? We would prefer to take a break from the screen at least in the summertime.
Answer: If you have the opportunity to go to an in-person summer math camp, that is amazing! One of these summers we will organize one for EMC too! However, if that's not possible, our online program is a great alternative. Replacing YouTube with an hour or two non-standard math a week is not very tiring and will be very beneficial, and even fun ;)
At EMC, we are passionate about helping kids learn math and discover the joy of problem-solving. If you have any other questions or concerns about our summer programs, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to help and would love to hear from you!
